The Monterey Bay Aquarium is proud to be a major sponsor of the BLUE Ocean Film Festival & Conservation Summit September 24-30, headquartered at Monterey’s Portola Hotel.

“Films play a key role in connecting people everywhere with the beauty and wonder of the oceans,” said aquarium Executive Director Julie Packard. “Done well, they can compel people to care more, then do more to protect the oceans. We’re very pleased to support BLUE as the festival’s presenting sponsor.”

More than 100 films selected from some 370 entries will be screened, with something for everyone—from individual tickets to films for as little as $5 to a selection of Festival passes that include all events, films, panels, the industry trade show and more. Ocean luminaries attending the events include HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, Fabien Cousteau, Dr. Sylvia Earle, Lifetime Achievement Award honorees director James Cameron and Captain Don Walsh, and others. BLUE is also bringing together a gathering of remarkable deep-sea submersibles and their creators as part of the festival.

In addition to films and receptions, BLUE features a range of ocean conservation-focused panels with experts addressing topics ranging from sub piloting for cinematographers to California legislative successes, oceans in a high-CO2 world and “flying” with whales.

Since its debut in June 2009, BLUE has been recognized for bringing together the world’s greatest collection of ocean films, esteemed filmmakers and marine experts. It is also the first festival to combine an international ocean film competition, a professional underwater filmmakers’ and photographers’ conference, and high-profile ocean conservation presentations, along with educational and entertainment activities for ticket-holders and the community.
