Aquarium Hosts International Aquarium Conference

December 2004
More than 500 aquarium professionals from around the world meet in Monterey from December 5 through 10 when the Aquarium hosts the 6th International Aquarium Congress at the Monterey Conference Center. The quadrennial gathering features a keynote speech by ocean conservation leader Jean-Michel Cousteau; a presentation by actor Ted Danson, an ocean conservation advocate and the founder of the American Oceans Campaign; and four days of working sessions that focus on how the world's aquariums can play a greater role in inspiring ocean conservation and protection of ocean wildlife.

Participants represent Aquariums from six of the seven continents. They hear presentations on everything from Aquarium design and business operations, to the cultivation and management of marine life collections, new directions in education programs and the evolving role of public Aquariums in ocean conservation issues.
