Oceans 2006: A Year of Exploring

January 2006
Kids and their families have more fun than ever when they visit the Aquarium during “Oceans 2006: A Year of Exploring.” Through special events and programs, they find opportunities for extreme exploration—and a chance to win cool prizes!

Our “Official Explorers” for 2006 are Kelsey Carlson of Mountain View and Erik Kreeger of Del Rey Oaks. This dynamic duo works with us to inspire children and families to explore at the Aquarium and beyond. Carlson, 11 years old, attends Graham Middle School in Mountain View. Her hobbies and interests include the French horn, reading, acting, art and hiking. She also writes poetry about the environment. In her interview, Carlson said she would like to be “the Lorax for the oceans,” referring to the title character of a Dr. Seuss book that fights to save the fictional Truffula Trees.

Kreeger, age 13, attends San Carlos School in Monterey . He’s part of his school’s ecology club, and is the recycling commissioner of the seventh grade. In his interview, Kreeger said he enjoys promoting conservation and “helping people get more knowledgeable” about the subject. “I think being the Official Explorer will help me know more ways to help the environment,” he added.
