Imagine a deep-sea worm that feeds on the bones of a whale carcass a mile below the surface of the ocean, or fragile animals that generate their own light in the near total darkness. The mysterious world of deep-sea exploration comes alive in a new exhibition called Mission to the Deep: Exploring the Ocean with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI). The exhibition combines stunning high-definition video footage with interactive computer animations of undersea robots and other high-tech tools. Through large, multi-screen presentations and interactive displays, the permanent exhibition invites visitors to join MBARI researchers on three different missions: discover alien life forms, map undersea mountains and investigate a sunken whale. Such tasks are all in a day's work for the MBARI team as it explores the largest and most mysterious habitat on Earth! Find out more about MBARI |
