Pioneer Volunteers

May 1984
From the Aquarium's inception, volunteers have been part of everything we do. The first class of Aquarium guides, 319 enthusiastic volunteers, complete a 15-week course on marine science and interpretive skills given at Monterey Peninsula College. They look forward to opening day, well prepared to welcome visitors, interpret the exhibits and encourage a sense of wonder and discovery. They are joined by other invaluable volunteers who staff our Information Desk, and work behind the scenes in husbandry operations, marketing, visitor programs and other areas.
