Sharks get a chance to star in our new special exhibit exploring the myths and realities about this diverse group of fishes.

One exhibit challenge was how fast sharks grow. This blacktip reef shark could outgrow the exhibit if it gets too much to eat!

Sharks!

January 1991
The special exhibit Sharks! opens, featuring 15 of the world's 360 shark species. The Aquarium's most popular exhibit to date aims to dispel the myth of sharks as mindless eating machines. It emphasizes both the vital role sharks play in the ocean ecosystem and the threats they face from overfishing. Giving people a better appreciation of their beauty may be a step toward the kind of conservation efforts needed to safeguard sharks in the wild.
