Deadly Beauties includes many remarkable animals, including the dramatically colored lionfish that threatens would-be predators with a display of venomous spines.
Our aquarists keep their distance when feeding animals like the stonefish, the most venomous fish in the ocean.
Easy Does It!Aquarists develop protocols for handling these dangerous animals, whose venom produces effects that range from incredibly painful to potentially fatal. Holding tanks are locked and marked with warnings, all handlers are specially trained, and security and even local hospital personnel have procedures ready in case of a poisoning. Nevertheless the odds of an incident are small, as most animals use their venom only for self-defense. Visitors will enjoy seeing these beautiesparticularly at a distance.
