Fishing for Solutions

March 1997
Using global shrimp fisheries to examine broader questions, this special exhibit highlights threats to global fisheries and ocean ecosystems—namely overfishing, bycatch and coastal habitat destruction and the rapid growth of the human population. On a positive note, each problem is matched with a solution to illustrate that well-managed fisheries and successful aquaculture projects do exist. In 1998, the exhibit wins the inaugural Munson Aquatic Conservation Exhibitry award from the American Zoo and Aquarium Association.

Menu, Please

Leading by example, the Aquarium makes a commitment to purchase and serve seafood from sustainable, well-managed fisheries. Requests from members and visitors for us to share our recommendations leads to creation of our Seafood Watch program and pocket guide to sustainable seafood choices.
