Designated by the United Nations, the Year of the Ocean points out threats to the ocean and current efforts to protect it. The National Ocean Conference on the health of the oceans gathers in Monterey with President Clinton, Vice President Gore and 500 delegates in attendance. We launch our Future of the Oceans initiative to develop more conservation education programs and start work on an internet site to bring those programs to children around the world.
