Getting The Inside Story

March 1998
Thirteen small exhibits throughout the Nearshore Galleries give visitors a behind-the-scenes view of the Aquarium. They can watch aquarists caring for our 300,000 marine plants and animals and learn how we prepare food for all of the animals in our exhibits. They can peek into the inner workings of a system that pumps a billion gallons of sea water through Aquarium exhibits every year and visit the roof to see the Kelp Forest surge machine.

We presented a video showing the care our octopuses receive.
One exhibit showed how our staff harvest brine shrimp from the food room.
Photo murals and graphic panels gave visitors a better sense of how we operate Aquarium life support systems.
