Our education staff launches Young Women in Science, a program designed to encourage female students' interest in careers in the sciences. We pair participants with several of our women on staff in activities such as snorkeling in a kelp bed and kayaking on the bay. This program, plus summer internships and the Teen Programs, instill a conservation ethic in young people and feed the dreams of future scientists.Guiding LightsEach year an average of 49 young people between the ages of 14 and 17 join the Aquarium team as student guides. This dynamic group trains with adult and student mentors for a week, then works in the Aquarium, interpreting our exhibits for visitors. Participants often become Volunteer Guides and some go on to pursue careers in marine biology. |
