The Aquarium's website wins the People's Voice award as the best science site on the internet at the Fourth Annual Webby Awards—the leading international honor for achievement in technology and creativity. The mission of our award-winning website is to inspire, enrich and extend a visit to the Aquarium, while fostering a deeper commitment and connection to the institution and ocean conservation.
Kelping Calm
In 2001, the site launches
five live web cams that allow internet visitors to see the Aquarium's sea otters, penguins, Kelp Forest, Outer Bay, and Monterey Bay from our oceanfront deck whenever they wish. In 2002, the Aquarium teams up with Comprehensive Medical Imaging MRI centers to help people relax while having magnetic resonance imaging procedures. Patients at a participating center can choose to wear special goggles and watch live video from any of the Aquarium's five streaming web cams in order to reduce their stress during the test.
