Vanishing Wildlife gives visitors a new underwater perspective from which to view the open ocean species in this million-gallon display.
The Vanishing Wildlife gallery focuses attention on the plight of tunas, turtles and sharks around the world.
May 2001A previously unseen view allows a breathtaking look up into the Outer Bay exhibit. The open ocean life seen through the window, particularly bluefin tuna, sharks and sea turtles, is threatened by a growing demand for seafood, and by destructive fishing practices and inadequate regulation. The exhibit shows how scientists, conservationists and the fishing industry are working together to manage these species. In 2002, it earns the Munson Award for aquatic conservation exhibits from the American Zoo and Aquarium Association.
