Tagging of Atlantic bluefin tuna by scientists with the Tuna Research and Conservation Center has revealed data vital to future conservation efforts.Shedding Light on TunasAugust 2001
After five winters of electronic tagging of Atlantic bluefin tuna, scientists at our Tuna Research and Conservation Center publish a study of transatlantic bluefin migrations in the prestigious journal Science. Their findings indicate that some bluefins in the Western Atlantic migrate to spawning grounds as far away as the Eastern Mediterranean. These data point up the need for a global approach to bluefin fishery management. TRCC scientists publish another paper in Nature about white shark migrations across the Pacific. |
