Explore Our History2003![]() To help the southern sea otter survive for generations to come, scientists must learn much more about why the sea otter population is growing so slowly. Sea Otter Research Program ChangesSeptember 2003
To address the growing crisis in the threatened southern sea otter population, we redirect our sea otter program to support the new federal recovery plan for otters. This means a greater emphasis on research and advocacy for changes in public policy to protect sea otters. Rehabilitation efforts for stranded sea otters will now focus on returning to the wild those animals most likely to contribute to recovery of the wild population. |
