CORAL REEF KINGDOM

This is a safe and fun place where babies crawling on their knees, or lying on their backs, can explore and touch colorful objects at their eye level. For safety reasons, this area is limited to infants and toddlers up to 34 inches (86 cm) tall.

THINGS TO DO

Talk to your baby while she plays, about what she sees, hears or feels, and about what you and others are doing.

WHY? The more you talk, the more babies learn.
Encourage your baby to touch and move the interactive components.

WHY? Babies' muscles grow strong only when they use them.

CORAL REEF KINGDOM
Waterbed Play Area

A giant circle-shaped waterbed play area encourages children to move their bodies or to enjoy the effects of the movements of others! For safety reasons, this area is limited to infants and toddlers up to 34 inches (86 cm) tall.

THINGS TO DO

Make gentle waterbed waves and pretend you're in a boat out on the ocean.

WHY? Young children like to be active and move whenever they get the chance!
Hold your child in your lap and rock from side to side while singing a song.

WHY? Songs help young children to practice words, and moving to music helps them learn they can use their muscles in many different ways.
Talk to your child about how the waterbed feels as its moving.

WHY? Hearing you speak about something while he's doing it helps a young child learn to talk.
Ask questions. Is the waterbed warm? Is it cold? Is the way it moves fun?

WHY? Many two and three year olds are learning a lot about using words to talk and think. They need to be given lots of chances to use the words they're learning.

Praise older children for showing caring and careful behavior to young children or infants enjoying the waterbed area!

WHY? Your praise reinforces behaviors you like to see.

Block Area

Colorful ocean creatures and different colored and shaped blocks invite children to play and learn. For safety reasons, this area is limited to infants and toddlers up to 34 inches (86 cm) tall.

THINGS TO DO

Talk to your toddler about what's around them.

WHY? Toddlers are ready to learn many facts about color, numbers, size and shape.
Encourage your child to stack the blocks and count them as you go. How many blocks are you able to stack? Can you create a stack that's taller than your child?

WHY? These activities help young children with early math concepts and help them learn about balance.
Have fun building block towers and knocking them down.

WHY? This helps children begin to understand cause and effect.
Encourage your child to sort the blocks by color or shape. See which blocks fit into different cut-out shapes located along the wall.

WHY? These activities help young children with early math and science concepts and help them develop their movement skills.

ENCHANTED KELP FOREST
Touch Pool

In our 40-foot-long touch pool, kids can see and touch the many plants and animals that live in the kelp forest habitat, including sea stars, abalones, sea urchins, kelp crabs and more.

THINGS TO DO

Be a role model and show your children how to gently touch the animals underwater.

WHY? By watching you, your children will learn that the animals can be explored in ways that are safe for the animal and safe for them (the animals won't hurt them!).
Help younger children to touch animals gently by gently guiding their little hands and fingers.

WHY? Young children lack fine muscle coordination and may have difficulty touching live animals gently.
