Kona Crab

Kona crab fisheries are generally well-managed.

Summary

Kona crab is found in both Australia and Hawaii. The Australian Kona crab fishery is well-managed and is a "Best Choice."

In Hawaii, Kona crab is caught using a series of flat, circular nets laid along the seafloor, baited with fish or chicken scraps. The crab crawls onto the nets and get entangled. There is very little bycatch with this fishing method. However, its population status is classified as unknown, resulting in a recommendation of "Good Alternative."
