Amazing Tuna
May 2009
Tuna are among the largest and fastest fish in the world. They can travel thousands of miles, at speeds up to 25 mph. However, they are vulnerable to overfishing and stocks have declined up to 90 percent in modern times.
Since 1994, staff at the Tuna Research and Conservation Center (TRCC), next door to the Aquarium, have been tagging giant bluefin tunas and studying them. We need to learn more about these magnificent animals and put our knowledge into action—so fishermen can continue to fish, and tunas can continue to thrive.
