The Student Oceanography Club (SOC) is a program for middle school students who are interested in learning about local ecosystems, marine science and ocean conservation. SOC encourages students to develop a personal connection to the ocean and make a difference in their local communities.
Over the course of the school year, SOC participants will explore the kelp forest ecosystem through engaging, hands-on experiences. Students will get outdoors, hear from local researchers and visit scientific institutions. With mentoring from high school and adult volunteers and Aquarium staff, they will join a supportive community of life-long learners and explorers.
- Grade level: Middle school (grades 6–8)
- Ages: 11–14
- Attend all program dates
SOC meetings are held the first Tuesday evening (6:30–8:30 p.m.) and third Saturday (time and locations vary) of every month, from October through May (exceptions may occur on holidays)
