The Open Sea exhibit is a mysterious, mesmerizing world where life looms large. The stunning one-million-gallon exhibit is home to one of the most diverse communities of open-ocean animals to be found in any aquarium. Giant bluefin tuna power their way through the water, while hammerhead sharks, pelagic rays and giant green sea turtles swim just inches away.

Sea Otter Pup on Exhibit

Sea Otter Pup on Exhibit

An eight-week old rescued pup has joined the sea otter exhibit. He came into our care at two weeks of age weighing barely six pounds, and is now a hefty 15 pounds—the result of a very healthy appetite! He's currently under the tutelage of Joy, who will teach him what a young otter needs to know. Be sure to come see him when you visit or watch him on our live Otter Cam. We'll also post updates and images on our Facebook page. As in the past, we may move him behind the scenes with little notice if that's in his best interests, so be sure to check if you’re planning a special trip.

Shark Fin Bill Passes!

Shark Fin Bill Passes!

We did it! California Governor Jerry Brown signed AB 376 on October 7—the bill to ban the trade in shark fins. A ban on fins here will have a significant impact on the global trade in shark fins—and protect shark populations around the world. Thank you for your calls, letters and support. It would never have happened without you!
