Underwater Explorers' Favorite Animals
Here are some cool creatures you might find when diving in Monterey Bay or in our rocky shore tide pools.
Monkeyface-eels
like to hide in crevices and holes
Warty sea cucumbers
are also known as "earthworms of the sea"
Decorator crabs
camouflage themselves with tiny seaweeds and animals
Bat stars
have webbing between their short, triangular arms, which gives them a batlike look
Hermit crabs
wear shells to protect their soft stomachs
Gumboot chitons
feel fuzzy because of the algae that live on them
Giant green anemones
are plantlike creatures that are actually animals with plants living inside them
Sea urchins
"walk" on tiny tube feet, much like sea stars do
Print your own dive log
and use it on your next underwater or virtual dive trip.
