About the Program


African blackfooted penguinThe Aquarium's Splash Zone Teacher Institute is specifically designed for teachers of young children. This year the institute will be residential and open to teachers nationwide. This free program provides opportunities for teachers to:
  • Discover new ideas about teaching science.
  • Share inquiry-based activities.
  • Wonder, discover, share, learn and play.
  • Implement new teaching strategies and standards-based activities.
  • Integrate language arts, math, science and social studies.
  • Network with Aquarium educators and colleagues from around the country.
  • Stay on campus at the beautiful Robert Louis Stevenson School in Pebble Beach, California.

Eligibility: Teams of 2-4 full-time K through 2nd grade classroom teachers and Head Start lead teachers

Requirements:
  • Attend all sessions Sunday through Friday during the summer.
  • Participate in follow-up workshops throughout the school year.
  • Implement the curriculum with your students and share your efforts with institute participants.
  • Lead an in-service or family discovery event at your school site or district.
  • Participate in the Aquarium’s online professional development community.

Credit: Units available through CSU Monterey Bay for an additional fee
