It's been an amazing year for the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the oceans.
I hope you've had an opportunity to see our newest special exhibition, The Secret Lives of Seahorses. Maybe you visited when the latest great white shark was on exhibit.
Last month we celebrated our 25th anniversary, and released our benchmark report,
Turning the Tide: The State of Seafood—including a
“Super Green” list of seafood that's good for you, and good for the oceans. Our respected Seafood Watch program is making it easy for individuals, restaurants and major food service companies to choose ocean-friendly seafood.
In California, there's been great progress toward creating a network of marine protected areas. On a national level, I'm very encouraged by the recommendations of the President's task force to reform ocean policy.
Most of all, I'm proud of the impact our exhibits and education programs are having on young people. Thousands who grew up with the Aquarium are now actively involved in protecting the oceans. Their stories are inspiring. I share more stories of positive change in a new video on our website.
Thank you for your support, and for all you do to create a future with healthy oceans.
Sincerely,

Julie Packard

Feathered Friends
Meet amazing birds at our "Feathered Friends" weekend November 21-22. We're highlighting animals with beaks, wings and feathers—including blackfooted penguins, a Laysan albatross and several species of shorebirds in our aviary. A Wildlife Associates presentation features a great horned owl, kestrel, Harris hawk and turkey vulture.
