Charles is the visionary proprietor and founder of the acclaimed Vietnamese restaurant The Slanted Door that showcases an abundance of produce as well as sustainably farmed meat, game and poultry produced around the San Francisco Bay area. He takes a cutting-edge approach to traditional cuisine as he seeks to preserve cultural traditions. Charles has been featured on the Food Network's "Iron Chef America" and Mark Bittman's "How to Cook Everything," as well as in numerous food publications. In 2004 he won the coveted James Beard Award for Best Chef: California and was nominated for its Outstanding Chef award in 2010. A leader in the San Francisco food community, Charles is a vocal advocate of sustainability and a longtime supporter of Cooking for Solutions.
