Michael champions food that's homemade and straightforward, with an emphasis on fresh, local ingredients. Honored with the 2010 James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef: South, Michael is recognized for his commitment to community and to responsible, seasonal food sourcing. His first cookbook was released in 2011, and he's made numerous national television appearances. When he's not in the kitchen, Michael focuses his time on supporting the arts and grassroots projects that nurture sustainable food systems in underprivileged parts of the community. His is a partner with Michel Nischan's Wholesome Wave, a member of the Chefs Collaborative and serves on the chef advisory board of Miami Dade College's new Miami Culinary Institute, with its focus on an innovative seed-to-table curriculum.
