Otter Days
September 25-26, Sat.-Sun. (10 a.m.-6 p.m.)
Free with Aquarium admission
There will be lots of family fun as you learn about these amazing creatures and what we can do to help them. Discover more about efforts to save California’s threatened southern sea otter population by talking with staff from the Aquarium’s Sea Otter Research and Conservation program (SORAC) and members of the nonprofit organization, Defenders of Wildlife. The weekend also includes special programs, a family craft room and otter-related prizes—including a chance for families to win behind-the-scenes tours of the Aquarium's sea otter exhibit.
Programs and activities include:
- Meet our aquarists: Learn how we care for the otters at hands-on sessions.
- Animal training game: Meet an animal behavior expert, learn why we train otters and participate in a fun training session.
- Otter spotting: Join sea otter researchers and trackers on the Great Tide Pool Deck. Visitors will get their otter questions answered as they search for wild sea otters swimming by.
- "You Otter Know:" Enjoy this lively game-show style program that teaches visitors about sea otters and freshwater otters.
- Green Cuisine: Taste seafood that's good for you and good for the oceans during this cooking demonstration.
Our web pages include photos, videos, podcasts and a live web cam so you can see what our otters are doing right now.
