Vice President of Marketing & Communications
Mindy Maschmeyer is responsible for overseeing all Marketing and Communications functions for the organization—including Creative Services, Advertising and Promotions, Digital Strategy, Hispanic Marketing and Media Relations—that support the Aquarium’s goals to drive attendance, meet financial projections and accomplish mission objectives.
"I'm a fourth-generation Monterey Bay native, and the Aquarium plays an integral role in my desire to protect ocean life for future generations. One of my favorite childhood memories is 'spending the night with the sharks' with my mom, an Aquarium Docent Emeritus."
Mindy has dedicated the last decade to empowering nonprofit organizations to meet their missions. Previous to her position at the Aquarium, Mindy served as National Director of Marketing & Communications at Playworks, where she was responsible for overseeing marketing and communications efforts for the leading national nonprofit enabling kids to build social and emotional skills through play.
Prior to that, she was a senior strategy consultant at Kaiser Permanente, where she was responsible for establishing content strategy for the nation’s largest nonprofit managed care organization. She has also served as the Director of Marketing and Communications for her alma mater—University of California, Berkeley—where she led marketing and communications efforts to strengthen alumni support of public higher education.
Mindy also serves on the Board of Directors for the Big Sur International Marathon Foundation and is on the Board of Trustees for the Monterey Museum of Art.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a graduate degree in nonprofit management from University of California, Berkeley. When she’s not working, Mindy enjoys scenic trail runs, visiting contemporary art museums and tending to her vegetable garden.
