Lisa Rende Taylor founded the Issara Institute (Issara means “freedom” in several Southeast Asian languages) in 2014, and as the Executive Director oversees all strategy and programming for the Institute. She has worked in the field of anti–trafficking in Asia for 18 years, beginning as a field researcher on the Thai–Burma border then going on to work in the U.S. State Department, as Regional Director for the Asia Foundation, in the International Labor Organization, and as Chief Technical Advisor for the United Nations Inter–Agency Project on Human Trafficking (UNIAP). She is a recognized authority on anti–human trafficking, regularly appearing in global televised, print and online media. She earned her doctorate in human behavioral ecology at the University of Washington.
