Bill Gates

BILL GATES

Guided by an ambitious belief that the computer would be a valuable tool on every office desktop and in every home, Bill Gates' foresight and vision transformed personal computing—and our world—forever. With this mission to help people and businesses realize their full potential, he led Microsoft to become the global leader in software, services and solutions.

As philanthropists, Bill and his wife, Melinda, are equally committed to helping people make the most of their lives by leveraging innovation, collaboration and risk-taking to tackle the toughest barriers: extreme poverty, inequity in health and disparity in education. Bill is also an influential leader in championing sustainable energy solutions that can help solve the risk of climate change.

Bill's innovative spirit, optimism and willingness to take risks transformed our daily lives, and are now the drivers behind his work to address global humanitarian and environmental issues. His dedication to improving our world inspires us all and we are delighted to present him with the David Packard Award.

David Packard

THE DAVID PACKARD AWARD

David Packard was one of the most pioneering business leaders of the 20th century. The scope of his thinking, his commitment to science and his curiosity led to the founding of the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute. He rooted the Aquarium's work in science and fostered a culture that supports teamwork and innovation. Today, the Aquarium is at the forefront of ocean conservation and known widely as a leader.

The Board of Trustees established the David Packard Award to honor leaders whose scope and achievements embody the qualities of thought and action that David Packard held dear, and who have effectively worked to make the future of our planet surer and more sustainable.
