Moderator – Can We Turn the Tide on Tuna?
An investigative oceans reporter and producer, Shannon has done work for the BBC, National Public Radio, The Guardian of London, Slate and Newsweek on stories ranging from the shark finning “mafia” in Costa Rica to tuna laundering in the South Pacific. She co-reported a groundbreaking 2012 series for Morning Edition about slavery on Thai fishing boats and is now producing a feature documentary on the same subject. Shannon has also reported from Iraq, Palestine and Israel, receiving several reporting awards and grants including the Knight Award for Best Narrative Science Journalism and a “Pick of the Year” from the editors of Mental Floss magazine. She lives on a houseboat in Sausalito with her pet seagull, Fluffy.
