Our ocean is extraordinary
Picture giant kelp forests swaying like underwater skyscrapers. Schools of fish moving together, sea stars clinging to rocks, crabs and snails crawling along the seafloor. At the surface, sea otters drift lazily while seabirds dive beneath the waves. This is what a healthy, biodiverse ocean looks like—rich in marine life where countless species play important roles in keeping the ecosystem in balance.
The ocean isn't just extraordinary. It's essential. It absorbs heat and carbon to help regulate our climate, supports ecosystems that are home to much of Earth’s biodiversity, and provides food and livelihoods for billions of people around the world. Healthy ocean ecosystems protect coastlines from storms and sustain the fisheries that communities depend on. When we care for the ocean, we're really caring for ourselves and for every generation that comes after us.
