High school

Program details
Teen Conservation Leaders (TCL) is a service-learning program for high school students to develop career and life skills, build self-confidence, and earn community service hours, all while supporting the Aquarium’s mission.
The summer begins with a week-long training where both new and returning TCL students build community and dive into basic marine biology and ocean conservation topics.
Interested teens can apply for three different opportunities or tracks:
- Guest Track: In this track, you'll hone your interpretation skills and provide enriching guest experiences. You'll become familiar with Aquarium stories and animals while sharing your passion for conservation. Applicants should have an interest in actively communicating with visitors of all ages and backgrounds.
- Animal Care & Engineering Track: This opportunity was designed for teens interested in the intersection of marine science and technology. In it, you’ll learn to care for near-shore invertebrates, and you'll engineer solutions that meet the needs of both the animals and the staff caring for them. Applicants should be okay getting a little dirty and doing some physical work.
- Science Communication Track: In this track, you’ll work with other teens to run social media accounts, as well as other forms of science communication, for teens worldwide. You’ll take photos and videos to create multimedia stories that engage teens in positive, conservation-focused conversations. Applicants should enjoy being creative in a collaborative environment of peers.
