Internships & externships
Join the next generation of ocean leaders
The challenges facing the ocean affect us all, but the field of conservation science doesn’t currently reflect our society as a whole. The future health of our ocean relies on the diverse contributions, perspectives, and innovation that only comes with a diverse workforce.
Opportunities
We offer internships and externships through the Monterey Bay Aquarium Internship Program. Our internship program helps build a more diverse workforce by supporting the recruitment of qualified undergraduate and graduate students from underrepresented communities of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) with meaningful work experience under the direction of an Aquarium mentor.
Students in the internship program take part in a meaningful learning and work experience with real-world projects that advance the Aquarium’s mission to inspire conservation of the ocean. Working with an Aquarium mentor, each participant identifies a project and deliverables they will complete during their time at the Aquarium. Students will develop skills for a career in fields related to ocean conservation.
Internship and/or externship opportunities are available across the Aquarium, including veterinarian science, animal care, technology, education, ocean conservation research, ocean policy, and more.
