Juvenile bigfin reef squid wallpaper
Couldn’t you look at these eyes all day?
This juvenile bigfin reef squid has cuteness down to a squishy science! When they hatch, bigfin reef squid are barely a quarter-inch long, but they can be over a foot long as adults. Though we no longer have this species of squid on exhibit, other aquariums around the world still hatch them using husbandry techniques invented by our own Animal Care team in 2014.
Did you know squid grow faster in warmer water? The fascinating connection between squid and their environment raises scientific questions about how they'll be affected by rising ocean temperatures. By working together to tackle climate change, we help juvenile squid–and young animals of all species–grow up in a healthy and balanced ecosystem.
