Pelican plunge
Elegant brown pelicans plunge into the frigid blue of Monterey Bay spotting shimmering silvery anchovies and other fleeting fish from as high as 65 feet. Diving with precision, the pelican fills its pouched bill with water and fish, tilts its head upwards to drain the water and joyfully slurps down its scrumptious catch. This flurried feeding frenzy fills us with gratitude for nature's gifts, from its wild beauty to its power connecting us all—these gifts are to be shared and protected.
You can spot the brown pelican (along with cormorants and sea gulls) right off our back deck searching for schooling fish or resting on the breakwaters.
