Waves of Learning optional experiences
Reservations open on October 14.
The following experiences are optional and can be added when you reserve your Waves of Learning field trip for children in homeschool, independent study, private tutoring, or home-based private school. Before booking your reservation, we recommend you take some time to read through the experiences below to select the best fit for your family.
Kelp Forest Connections Lab
Description
Students will develop a kelp forest food web model through hands-on activities and observations. Using technology and animal models, students will search for evidence that supports their learning.
Recommended ages and grades
Ages 7–12 (All ages welcome)
Grades 2–8
Capacity
Maximum 30 participants per session

30–60 minutes (15 minute introduction, followed by free choice exploration time)

Story and Craft Time
Description
Students listen to a read-aloud, ocean-themed story and then create a simple craft inspired by the story, helping reinforce comprehension through creativity and hands-on expression.

Exhibit Design Maker Experience
Description
Students explore four different careers at the Aquarium, discovering the unique roles and priorities each one brings to the design of a new exhibit. They then brainstorm their own exhibit ideas and create a prototype, applying their understanding through creative, hands-on design.
Recommended ages
All ages welcome. Not recommended for students under 6 years old due to program length, use of cutting tools, and higher level content.

Aquarium Past and Present Tour
Description
Follow our guides through staff-only, restricted areas to see behind-the-scenes spaces. Hear insider stories about what makes this place special, explore pipes and machinery, and learn more about how we care for our animals.

Ages 8 years old and up. All students must be accompanied by an adult.

Family Adventures in Animal Care Tour
Description
Embark on this behind-the-scenes adventure, tailor-made for families with kids under eight, but fun for everyone. Dive into the world of animal care through interactive activities that mirror the daily routines of our animal care staff.
