A friendly flotilla
The otters agree: The Aquarium is the place to be! But they're not just here for the free clams—they’ve got a serious job to do. The otters in our exhibit are part of something truly special: a long-running surrogacy program that helps care for stranded sea otter pups so they can be released back into the wild.
For over 40 years, our otters have been stepping in as furry foster parents, teaching pups the skills they need to survive and thrive in the wild. Once they’re ready, these pups join a new raft outside of the Aquarium walls, but they might not even go very far!
Next time you visit, take a moment to appreciate these hardworking otters on exhibit, then head to the outdoor observation deck to gaze out at the wild rafts! Learn more about our pioneering surrogacy program and how you can support it.
