Otter care volunteer

Help us care for abandoned, ill, or injured sea otters and release them back into the wild.

Duties and requirements

  • Must be age 18 or older.
  • Must be comfortable working in cold/wet environments, outdoors, and independently.
  • Engage in food preparation, feeding otters, and cleaning of the Food Room and dishes.
  • Maintenance of indoor and outdoor holding pools, including debris removal, scrubbing tanks, and disinfecting equipment.
  • Basic computer data entry to record food intake, body measurements, and behavioral observations.
  • Must be able to climb stairs (up three flights consecutively), climb into holding pools with wet surfaces, and tolerate repetitive bending and lifting (up to 30 pounds).
  • Must carefully observe and follow all protocols for the position.

Time commitment

  • Commit to at least one year of service on weekly shifts for 5.5 hours.
  • You’ll also be required to attend periodic evening classroom trainings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
